As well as our regular services, we have a number of special events which we usually celebrate each year. This does not prevent us from doing yet more things if we so wish !
St. Augustine's is part of Holy Trinity parish, so takes part in all the parish activities. We haven't tried to include everything that happens in this list, but we hope we've listed all those special to St. Augustine's, and those to which St. Augustine's people commonly make a significant contribution. Items marked :
Garden party | St. Augustine's | January | A relaxed afternoon in someone's garden, with tea, cakes, and undemanding ( not compulsory ) activities. |
Harvest festival | St. Augustine's and Holy Trinity | March | Thanksgiving for God's bountiful provision for our needs, through the traditional harvest and in other ways. |
Procession of witness | Parish | Good Friday | We remember Jesus's journey to Calvary with a procession from Windsor Reserve to the top of Mount Victoria. |
Patronal celebration | St. Augustine's | May | St. Augustine is remembered on May 26; on a Sunday close to that date we have a special service of thanksgiving. |
Carol service, and barbecue | St. Augustine's | December | Carols, and a story, and ( afterwards ! ) a barbecue. BYO ! |
Carol singing - old members | Parish | December | We travel round the parish, singing carols to older members of our congregations, and giving small gifts. |
Carol singing - Victoria Road | Parish | December | We sing in the many eating establishments of Devonport to remind them of Christmas - up one side of Victoria Road, and down the other. |
Christingle service | St. Augustine's and Holy Trinity | Christmas Eve | A very popular service; the Christingle reminds us of God's bounty to us, and particularly of the gift of His Son. |
